The story of Răzvan

My name is Ana Machedon  and I am from Timişoara. My son Răzvan is three years old. There have passed three years and three months since the happiest day of my life, three years of sorrow and pain, instead of joy and fulfillment. All of this because Răzvan is not healthy as me and my husband hoped. He has born premature at 36 weeks through caesarian after a fetal sufferance, as the doctors said, having 3030 grams and being in a critical faze from the beginning. The initial diagnosis was intraventricular brain hemorrhage grade III-IV, difficult neonatal adaptability, EHIP severe form. After seven days of maternity we were transferred to the premature section where we stayed another ten days until Răzvan was stabile. Once we arrived at home the great fight and the ordeal had started.

We understood that Răzvan was a sick child and we started reading, asking, gathering any information about what we could do for him and where can he get help. We wanted him to be a normal child, to be able to enjoy childhood. After several periodical cheeks at neurology, ophthalmology, NMR and all that were necessary at three months we started the recovery therapy. At first it was the classical physiotherapy, then advised by our neurologist, Dr. Bacos, we started another form of physiotherapy, Vojta. Unfortunately this therapy it is done in our city in private practice, since the number of such clinics is reduce all over Romania. Today, a session of 30 minutes of Vojta costs 35 lei (10 US Dollars) and we do them 5 days a week. I am not sorry for this, but I need you to understand that we do and we have done grate sacrifices for Răzvan to be able to benefit from these forms of recovery every day. To these we add the drugs and all the other that are necessary. We are a modest family and money doesn’t come pouring from the sky.

Unfortunately, with all our efforts, today at three years old, Răzvan is a child who doesn’t speak, can’t sit, can’t control properly his head, as for walking it is only a dream. He isn’t able to catch by his hands, he stares only for a few seconds. The final diagnosis is cerebral palsy, pyramidal and extra pyramidal tetraparesis (spastic tetraparesis), severe psychomotor retardation, microcephaly, dystonic attacks.

Along side Vojta physiotherapy and classical physiotherapy we went at recovery centers from: 1 MAI-Oradea, Sibiu, Zalău. Since Răzvan was born we went to many doctors from Romania and Austria, Hungary, Italy with the question: WHAT CAN WE DO? WHAT ARE THE CHANCES THAT RĂZVAN IS GOING TO BE WELL SOME DAY? The answers were the same: recovery, physiotherapy, and multiple sensory stimulation; how much he is going to recover, one can’t predict. It is very painful, but we can’t give up, we can’t! we have to do whatever we can with hope in God. May the day come when Răzvan will sit and we can walk holding his hand…at least this…I can’t hope for more, although it is good to have high hopes. But how big the disappointment is when these hopes don’t fulfill.

We heard and we read about the recovery clinic from Ukraine, we saw children with the same condition as Răzvan that went there and improved considerably. I want so much to get there with Răzvan but we can’t afford. 12 days of recovery there cost 3500 euro and we can’t gather this money all by ourselves. It takes more than a 12-days session of physiotherapy to improve. The current expenses are a considerable effort for us. This is the reason why I kindly ask all of you, good-hearted people, to help us. I know these are difficult times for us all, but I also see that there are large souls that help us. From your resources please help Răzvan to have an easier childhood and life, not to suffer. The perspective for now is a life in a wheel-chair. More that anything I wish him to be able to walk on his own, not to carry him all his life in my arms, because as much as I want this, physically it is impossible. If only he could say whenever he is hungry or thirsty or when he’s hurt. We want so much to hear him say MAMA, DAD. The pain inside our souls can’t be put into words. We don’t know why God permitted such a cruel life for us, not to be able to be happy for our son, to enjoy his wags and pranks.

We know that everything happens for a reason. Please help us, little by little, for Răzvan means a lot to benefit from recovery in Ukraine. GOD HELP US ALL!

On June 6th Răzvan can start treatment in Ukraine. He needs 3500 euro for this.
